Our Mission

OUR MISSION:

MORE THAN JUST A
PLACE TO CALL HOME...

We believe that no woman or child should have to choose between abuse and homelessness.
Our mission is to provide immediate, safe and supportive housing that allows survivors of domestic violence to begin again with dignity.
Our founders have had a goal for over a decade to build emergency housing for domestic violence survivors. Originally it was on a much smaller scale, with the view of generating sufficient surplus funds through their businesses, to build one maybe two, unit blocks, to provide emergency & temporary housing for women and their children in need of refuge.

Over the years, through meeting with partners this goal has greatly evolved to where it is today – building & maintaining housing for domestic violence survivors and continue to grow the number of

Many of us have been impacted or know someone impacted by domestic and family violence, highlighting just how widespread and urgent this issue is. Domestic and family violence disproportionately affects women and children. There remains a critical gap in short-term housing support for women and children at their most vulnerable – during and immediately after escaping domestic and family violence.
We understand, from both personal experience and community insight the moment a woman leaves or attempts to leave an abusive environment is often when she faces the highest risk of harm. Often women feel they have no choice but to remain in unsafe situations due to a lack of immediate and secure housing options, and they are left with the unthinkable choice between violence and homelessness

It is essential that we provide accessible, safe, and affordable housing solutions that empower women and children to rebuild their lives with security and dignity.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER

OUR LONG-TERM VISION

Over the next five years, North Star Foundation is committed to building 100 safe, purpose-designed homes for women and children escaping domestic and family violence.

These homes will provide more than 36,000 nights of secure, stabilising accommodation – giving families the space, privacy and support they need to begin again. Each unit is thoughtfully designed to be both functional and comforting, located in discreet yet connected neighbourhoods to ensure safety without isolation.

But bricks alone don’t rebuild lives. Our goal is not only to house families, but to help them transition into long-term independence. Through managed tenancies, relief packages, rental references and post-stay support, we aim to assist over 500 women and their families each year in creating a safer, more stable future.

With continued donor support and industry partnerships, this vision becomes the reality for those survivors.
